  10. Dear sir,
I want explanation on Model Verbs of Obligation, that is If I want to say that something is
necessary for someone to do something I can use 'must' or 'have to' to show obligation in the present
eg : I must go home at ten o'clock

And when we use 'Had to' it means that something was necessary for someone to do something and he
did it so,but if we show advice in the the past by the word 'should have' it means that something was
advisable for someone to do something in the past but he did not do it.

In addition ; showing obligation by 'should' is less strong than showing obligation by the model verb 'must'
or 'have to' and what I want to know is can I show obligation in the past by the model verb 'must have'

    As for a example:
Roy must have gone home last night

    1) Does the above example mean that it was necessary for Roy to have gone home last night? (but Roy
did not go even it was necessary)

  11. Sir I couldn't understand the model verbs which are used to show ability

I have learnt many English Grammar books; in addition a british professor(seonaid) has taught me
English. The professor told me about model verbs abilty as follows,

for general ability in the present - we prefer 'can' (but can also use 'be able to'):
    eg:- •He can speak Spanish
for specific ability in the present- we prefer 'be able to'(but can also use 'can'):
eg:- He has now recovered from his injury and is able to drive again
for general ability in the past- we prefer 'could' (but can also use 'be able to'):
    eg:- •He could speak Spanish
for specific ability in the past- we prefer 'was/were able to'
eg:- •I was able to lift the heavy box.

But this this does not agree with your grammar lessons on 'model verbs of ability'
